Challenge
Freightliner needed a new training academy to support the rollout of the ERTMS system across the Midlands.
Process
Zentura partnered with their ERTMS team to assess locations, adapt an existing design concept and transform an old nightclub into a fully equipped training centre.
Outcome
An 8,000 sq ft academy delivered in 11 weeks — on brand, technically robust and ready to support the next phase of ERTMS training.

Built on partnership, not guesswork
Freightliner had already worked with Zentura to create their Ipswich training academy — a flagship space that set the standard for future facilities. When the time came to expand their ERTMS programme into the Midlands, they turned to the same team again.
Zentura supported Freightliner from the earliest stage, helping assess the feasibility of multiple locations. That clarity enabled the client to select a site in Doncaster with confidence.
The relationship blended long‑standing trust with specialist knowledge. Freightliner knew Zentura understood the technical demands of ERTMS training — and that they could deliver without unnecessary disruption.

Design continuity
The brief was clear: replicate the success of Ipswich, adapt it to a new building and ensure the design felt unmistakably Freightliner.
Zentura took the established design concept and re‑shaped it for the Doncaster space, ensuring consistency across their training estate. The aesthetic is bold, polished and on brand — with strong colour accents, bespoke graphics and a layout that supports both focused training and collaborative learning.
The challenge was the building itself. As a former nightclub, it required extensive strip‑out and a complete rebuild of services. Zentura handled everything: HVAC, lighting, power, data, suspended ceilings, raised access flooring, partitioning, joinery, teapoints, flooring, decoration and furniture.

Seamless delivery
The entire 8,000 sq ft strip‑out and fit out was delivered in just 11 weeks. The new academy includes multiple adaptable training rooms, breakout spaces and a high‑spec simulator suite that gives drivers a realistic, immersive training environment. Every detail supports the rollout of ERTMS across the Midlands.
Weekly video updates and regular meetings kept the client fully informed, even when they couldn’t be on site. That transparency gave them complete peace of mind and the freedom to focus on their day‑to‑day responsibilities.
The result is a space that looks and feels like Freightliner — and works exactly as their teams need it to.

The Experience

What better looks like
This project was about making work better. Not louder. Not trendier. Just better.
Better for their drivers: with realistic simulator environments and adaptable training spaces.
Better for their teams: with a consistent, on‑brand academy that supports collaboration and learning.
Better for the ERTMS rollout: with a facility built to accelerate training across the Midlands.
And better for Freightliner: because when the workplace works better, people do too.
