Colas Rail

Prior to working with us, Colas Rail recognised that none of their existing facilities were suitable for the specialised training required for the ERTMS system. This presented a dual challenge of finding a suitable space and transforming it within a tight timeline. After leasing a site in Crewe, they turned to Zentura, recommended by their network and chosen for our proven expertise in delivering ERTMS-related projects.

The journey began with a comprehensive and collaborative design process. Zentura worked closely with teams at Colas Rail to create an open-plan plan layout, fully optimised for training and shared learning. A series of conceptual designs were built around the organisation’s established brand assets and colour scheme, creating a new space that felt like home for their staff. 

Design concepts were refined and developed into a fully deliverable package. This included detailed drawings, visuals and FF&E schedules. This was followed by multiple rounds of value engineering, ensuring that the project remained on-budget while maintaining the highest standards of quality. 

Fit-out works commenced, beginning with extensive strip-out works. This involved the removal of partitions and outdated electrical systems, as well as the strip-out of old joinery to prepare the site for transformation. New partitions were then installed, including a prominent jumbo wall to separate office areas from the warehouse. 

Utilities were the next area of focus. Zentura managed first fix for power, data, lighting, fire alarms and HVAC systems, followed by second fix works including CCTV and access control. This was followed by extensive joinery work, including the installation of bespoke tea points, a coffee bar, print points and all office doors.

The space underwent fill decoration, with branded signage and coloured elements reflecting Cola Rail’s established identity. This was complimented with the installation of new carpet and vinyl flooring across office areas, meeting rooms and breakout spaces.

Cola Rail’s new training academy was finished with office and breakout furniture, with similar rooms fully prepared for future installation. 

Throughout each stage of this project, Collar Rail were fully informed with weekly updates and site visits, guaranteeing full transparency every step of the way.

The result is a modern, branded training academy ready to house Colas Rail’s state-of-the-art simulators and serve as a hub for ERTMS training. While the facility won’t officially launch until March, the project was delivered on time and within budget, setting a new standard for Colas Rail’s facilities.
